Reviving a Classic: My Rework of BT & Jan Johnston’s “Anomaly”

Posted by runge Category: Music Tag: , ,

I’m pleased to present my rework of Anomaly, the seminal trance track by Libra (aka BT) and Taylor, featuring Jan Johnston. Originally released in 1996 and later reintroduced as BT featuring Jan Johnston – Anomaly (Calling Your Name) in 2000, the track gained widespread recognition after its inclusion in the 1999 film American Pie.

My aim with this release was to respect the original’s emotional depth and melodic strength while reimagining it for today’s dance floors. The new version blends modern progressive and melodic house elements, supported by crisp, contemporary production. The result is a club-ready update that remains faithful to the track’s trance roots.

Reworking Anomaly was both an artistic challenge and a personal milestone. Rather than overhauling the original, I focused on enhancing its core energy and timeless qualities through subtle, modern refinements. It’s a reinterpretation meant to resonate with both longtime listeners and a new generation of electronic music fans.

The rework is available now on SoundCloud and YouTube, and can be downloaded for free: https://lnk.takingaleftturn.com/btanomalyrungeedit
